In many of these critical areas, clean agent fire suppression systems are utilized. They suppress a fire by flooding a fire zone with a gas that diffuses heat away from a fire at the molecular level. This cools the fire and stops combustion. The most popular suppression agent, FM-200 (FE-227ea) also releases free radicals in the fire zone, which also inhibit combustion. Because water, dry chemicals and foam can create considerable damage in areas with sensitive equipment, clean agent systems are utilized causing virtually no “collateral damage”.
